Perform system engineering work in designing, planning, estimating and proposal preparation for shipboard systems. Ensures design is compliant with proposal requirements. Oversees and conducts the design and integration of marine systems including machinery, propulsion, machinery control systems, alarm and monitoring, integrated bridge, C6ISR, etc. Position serves as a subject matter expert for design studies and proposals. Ensures compliance with the specifications, regulatory requirements, and standard practices. Provides technical and engineering guidance to proposal team.
Responsible for selection and arrangement of cost effective power, cooling and propulsion components. Working with selected suppliers to integrate their equipment into the design. Perform preliminary powering, fuel consumption, endurance and weight and CG calculations. Responsible for obtaining and reviewing vendor information and technical data as required. Accountable and responsible for providing engineering calculations as appropriate. Responsible for sketches, schematics, preliminary layouts, system function, bill of materials, etc. to facilitate development of an estimate to build the vessel. Experience in autonomous vessel design a benefit. BSE degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Experience working in a design office or shipyard in the design and construction of marine vessels. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Strong computer literacy. Proposal writing experience a benefit. Design and/or operational experience in marine systems and structure.
