Job Summary:
This is advanced level engineering work applying surface water hydrologic and hydraulic models for the development of water management strategies, engineering projects, and minimum flows and levels. Must be experienced in completing calibration and verification of hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality models such as HSPF, SWMM, or ICPR.

Job duties include:
  • Performs water quantity and water quality studies of surface water basins using major watershed models such as: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, BASINS/HSPF, and District developed models; performs computer model calibrations and verifications of watershed simulations; maintains and updates water quantity/quality simulation models; determines data needs for watershed studies and computer applications such as: GIS data, land use and soil data, meteorological data, and hydraulic data; performs statistical analyses and quality control on collected data and simulated results; performs hydraulic simulation of streams and rivers, such as stages and discharge relationships for applications in other computer models.
  • Develops, conducts and oversees water quantity and quality projects to include preparing project definition, scopes of work, and scheduling; defining needs for meteorological, GIS(land use, soil data), hydrologic, and hydraulic data; assessing the quality of existing data; designing hydrologic monitoring networks for collection of data; conducting statistical data analysis and data modeling and developing computer programs for project applications; reviews literature pertaining to present and past studies or projects.
  • Evaluates model results to draw conclusions for specific projects; and makes recommendations for project implementation.
  • Prepares, writes and reviews technical reports from within and outside of SJRWMD.
Minimum Qualifications:
Professional Engineer requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering, and registration by the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer.

Engineer Scientist requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering, five years experience directly related to the field in which the position is assigned.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering can substitute for one year of the required experience.

A doctorate from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering can substitute for two years of the required experience.

Additional Details:
Base Salary: $57,678.40
