We are searching for a Manufacturing Engineer 1 in our Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division, located in located in Ashburn, VA.
We are currently recruiting a Manufacturing Engineer1 to join our team.
Manufacturing Engineers are designers, as well as analytical and creative thinkers—they can operate on their own initiative but also contribute as a team member working with engineers from various disciplines. Engineers in this field develop and improve manufacturing processes and product designs. They also test assembly designs and look for ways to improve efficiency, as well as review the final product to ensure it complies with customer and Government standards. These professionals generally use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create, modify and test prototypes of products and processes.
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that products are designed for ease of manufacturability, and for the successful roll-out of new hardware designs to manufacturing. This includes providing design inputs early in development, providing cost analysis and executing pilot runs. In addition, you will have a responsibility for developing prototype manufacturing processes and transitioning these processes through all design phases. The design and implementation of product test fixtures and tooling is also a key aspect of the job.
Major Job Activities:
40%- Initiate and review manufacturing work flow and processes/procedures such as:
Rework and modification instructions
Special process instructions
Standard repair instructions
20% - Provide key technical input on all hardware designs for manufacturingease and cost considerations.
Investigate alternate/new manufacturing processes and technologies to help continuously improve our processes.
Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process.
Identify and implement equipment to aid in process improvement.
10% - Producing, maintaining, and presenting performance metrics.
10% - Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department (i.e. sign off authority).
10% - Communicate information between the design and manufacturing teams, and ensure that design feedback from manufacturing is relayed to engineering.
5% - Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the organization such as 5S,Tool Control, etc.
5% - Provide input pertaining to the manufacturing department for future proposals.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability obtain and maintain a TS/SSBI.Must be able to obtain and maintain additional clearances as required
Bachelor degree in a relevant engineering field
Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering, aerospace manufacturing, or other relevant fields
Experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods, specifically in composites, metals, and/or electronics
Experience with technical writing, specifically work instructions and process documentation
Experience with creating and presenting performance metrics
Excellent people skills,with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment
Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success
Proficient with Microsoft Office products
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
Ability to interface with all program disciplines, including but not limited to program management, procurement, and quality
Ability to handle multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
Existing Secret or TS clearance with current 5 year update
Experience in a 3D CAD software. Experience in Creo is preferred
Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Experience with 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing
Experience with Visual Basic and basic Computer Science concepts
Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, six sigma, etc
Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing preferred
