Con Edison Battery Storage continues to grow and is seeking to hire an Engineer who will be responsible for designing application requirements, assisting in the coordination of product development to meet program timelines, and supporting integrations, customer launches and services in the field.
Under minimal direction, the Engineer will participate as a field commissioning agent to achieve department and project objectives for system battery installation and system start-up activities. The Engineer will provide communications system design, commissioning scheduling, on-site oversight of battery module installation and will perform battery terminations. The CES member will also provide support to the Development Team in formulating an application deployment plan to be executed once the system comes online. The CES member will be expected to interface directly with customers and installation professionals, while establishing an ongoing partnership with the customer on assigned projects. More specific responsibilities include:
Responsible for self-managing commissioning schedules for field installations in coordination with project managers, engineering team, and the Dir of Operations.
Assess and provide direction on requirements for project development opportunities for requirements related to the communications and controls integrations necessary for selected applications to utilize our Energy Storage Systems.
Assess and design network interfaces with customer networks to assure customer security protocols are not violated.
Provide direct on-site commissioning duties including installation of battery modules, torquing battery terminals to specified torque requirements, field documentation of commissioning activities, and assessing readiness to energize our energy storage systems.
Demonstrated capability to assess hazards and identify safety requirements and mitigation methods for working in and around energized electrical parts including PPE assessment, lockout tagout methods, and identifying all job-related hazards.
Demonstrated knowledge of communications systems and methods for physically connecting networks including single and multi-mode fiber, ethernet, RS485, RS232, CANBUS and other physical networking wiring methods.
Demonstrated knowledge of communication layer protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet, CANBUS, BACNET, Serial communications including the development of ModBUS maps.
Demonstrated understanding of data structures and datatypes.
Demonstrated capability to work with third party control and communications programs for upgrading third party device firmware, connecting between networks, programming routing tables, assigning IP addresses for devices, etc.
Implement and assist other engineers with design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of components will optimize the manufacturing and assembly process. Ensure that the design of all components facilitates handling throughout the product life cycle, from shipping through disassembly and recycling.
Demonstrated capability to provide customer facing support in the development of projects and in field commissioning of projects.
Demonstrated capability to independently troubleshoot and provide scalable solutions for challenges encountered in the field.
Actively participates in relevant professional organizations, takes on lead roles within those organizations.
Maintains relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., NFPA 70E Training, Network Design Certifications, etc.).
Responsibility for the promotion and adherence of Company Safety Policies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from accredited four-year college or university
Minimum 3 years related work experience or equivalent
2+ years of experience with communications and development tools
Experience with 1000VDC battery systems.
Previous Electrical Safety Training including NFPA70E
Experience with 480Vac 3-phase Inverters a plus
Proficient in computer software including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite, and MatLab, PLC controls, Visual Basic or other programming languages
Solid communication and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Able to lift/handle battery components weighing up to 50 lbs
Travel expectation is up to 50%, and may include occasional international travel
HV Laboratory environment requiring the use of proper PPE
On-site outdoor installations
