Supports the design, integration, and testing of new product architectures to demonstrate that product performance meets customer requirements and advances the technology readiness level (TRL) and manufacturing readiness level (MRL) of new products. Applies knowledge of various engineering disciplines to design, develop, integrate, and test new products.
Design and Development:
Design, develop, and integrate new products from subsystems and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components to meet performance requirements.
Develop block diagrams that outline physical connections and data and signal flow throughout the system.
Conduct system level modeling to predict performance of the system against project requirements.
Develop technical data packages including, but not limited to, technical drawings, bill of materials, interconnect diagrams, and wiring schematics.
Decompose customer needs and system requirements into product concepts.
Develop or modify embedded software as needed to meet product performance objectives.
Collaborate with NPD engineering team to provide input on system architecture and design.
Specify and support the procurement of COTS components to meet system design.
Test, Model and Troubleshoot:
Produce test reports that outline test results and conclusions regarding product performance.
Fabricate and test prototype and purchased systems to establish performance baselines.
Develop test procedures and protocols to evaluate the performance of new products using appropriate design of experiments.
Evaluate technical data to draw conclusions about system and subsystem performance and to provide recommendations for improving system performance.
Troubleshoot systems using relevant electrical, mechanical, and analytical tools to identify root cause and resolve technical issues.
Software and Systems:
Use design tools, such as SolidWorks and ProE for mechanical designs or Altium for electrical designs, to support new product design and documentation.
Utilize Linux operating systems and embedded operating systems.
Operate Source Code Management (SCM) systems such as Git, TFS, Subversion.
Safely design, integrate, and test direct current (DC) circuits and components.
Integrate components and subsystems that utilize standard communication interfaces (Ethernet, Serial, CANbus, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, etc.).
Apply object-oriented programming languages and principles.
Possess the technical knowledge and background to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Essential Skill and Experience:
Possess good organizational and communication skills to work within and between integrated teams and perform a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment.
Practical understanding of product development methodologies (such as stage gate and spiral product development) and product lifecycle.
Demonstrated the ability to work in small, cross-functional, matrixed teams.
Presentation and technical report writing skills.
Practical use of Microsoft Office, and Windows operating systems.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
1-3 years of experience in a relevant field and industry preferred.
Capable of demonstrating experience integrating electrical and mechanical systems with required software into a product that performs to design requirements.
Experience reading systems architectures to understand the function that is emerging from the system.
Able to follow systems thinking best practices.
Capable of reading, generating, and understanding engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and other technical documents and specifications.
Ability to travel as needed.
Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance.
Office environment, cubical and engineering lab areas
Hours 9/80: 7:00 – 5:00, Monday through Thursday, Friday 7:00 – 4:00 occasional additional hours as needed
