The Sr. FPGA Design Engineer will play a vital role in the growing engineering team at Wasatch Photonics. With a particular focus on FPGA control of CCD and active-pixel imaging CMOS sensors, the successful candidate will help drive our next generation products and OEM development projects.

Ideal candidates will be excited at the prospect of working in a fast-paced development environment while juggling multiple ongoing projects and learning more about the physics, optics and chemistry underlying spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography.
Location: Position location can be in Orlando, Florida or Morrisville, North Carolina (Research Triangle Park). Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Lead new sensor integration projects including development of sensor interface and data read-out
- Investigate advanced sensor-control and image-processing techniques to speed and smooth data acquistition in one and two dimensions
- Design and test of high-speed digital interfaces using LVDS, SERDES, MIPI and other standard IP
- Design system-level verification testbenches for regression- and unit-testing
- Be the assigned lead engineer on OEM development projects responsible to bring customer inspired technical solutions to fruition
- Interface with multi-disciplinary teams and communicate with technical experts in optics, mechanical design, software development and volume manufacturing
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation in accordance with the Quality Management System of the company
Required Experience
- FPGA design with VHDL (Xilinx ISE preferred)
- Intra-board communication protocols (I2C, SPI, MIPI)
- Testbench design for simulation and regression test
- Full lifecycle design (concept, feasibility, design, test, transfer to manufacture/DFM)
- Experience using engineering processes & procedures
Preferred Experience
- Control and readout of CCD or CMOS active-pixel detectors
- Microcontroller firmware using C (ARM or FX2)
- External communication buses (USB, BLE etc)
- FPGA design with SystemVerilog
- Some programming experience is a plus (any of Python, C#, MATLAB, R, LabVIEW etc)
- Revision control with Git
- Experience writing engineering processes & procedures
- 5 years experience in commercial organizations involved in product development and design
Education / Skills
- BS/MS or higher in Electrical Engineering or relevant fields
- Strong communication skills and positive attitude to work with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams towards success of products
- Strong organizational skills and capability of performing necessary written documentation
- Self-motivated to work on multiple development projects simultaneously
