The Application Engineer is one of the primary client-facing individuals and is also the primary medium between the client and ESI product development for issues, defects and enhancements. You will work closely with the business users in gathering requirements and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed project plan and system requirements for software development projects. Our customers transport and store liquid hydrocarbons and chemicals in the (midstream) pipeline, terminal, and marine space. This role will be focused on development and documentation of functional business requirements, business process consulting, business case development, ongoing system implementations and process improvement projects in support of the Information Technology best practices.
The ideal candidate will have strong requirements gathering, gap analysis skills, and software implementation skills.
Work as a consultant to gather, document and understand client business processes and requirements and as an implementer to deliver the agreed upon functionality.
Coordinate between teams of technical resources and business stakeholders and have a thorough understanding of the technologies, systems, and processes that will be used in achieving project objectives
Prepare UAT documents and run the UAT with the client
Assist the QA team with test plans
Process mapping and process improvement.
Place emphasis on executing on time, on budget and with high customer satisfaction.
Gather and document client business processes and requirements
Write and/or review project business requirements, process and data flows, and other related documentation.
Maintain business cases, change requests, test plans and issue/action tracking while making recommendations for improvement.
Software application gap analysis and troubleshooting.
Perform testing and document changes.
Track and resolve bug/defect reports.
Client-specific application configuration
Change request management
Make recommendations and changes in order to improve and support business activities.
Interact with different client groups to provide analytical support.
Assist teams with the planning and design of business processes and systems.
Excellent knowledge of company’s business procedures and objectives.
Demonstrate superior collaboration and problem solving skills.
Organization, good judgment, communication skills, analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and decision making skills.
Write user documentation as needed.
Organize and perform client training sessions (formal and informal)
Post-go live support – prepare UAT documents and run UAT with client
Must be willing and able to travel up to 25%
BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or technical equivalent plus 5 years of experience
Or, Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering or technical equivalent plus 3 years of experience.
Experience studying pipeline schematics and translating them into pipeline models preferred.
Data analysis experience with an emphasis on a graphics based analytics preferred.
Previous application engineering or business analysis experience in a project and services oriented environment, including interaction with external clients preferred.
Experience with project lifecycles from requirements to support transition preferred.
Basic understanding or working knowledge of C#, WPF, SQL, XML preferred.
Strong communication, presentation and collaboration skills preferred.
Attention to detail and exemplary organizational skills preferred.
Oil & Gas experience preferred.
Visio, Access, and AutoCad experience, a plus.
Intermediate to Expert in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint preferred.
Good balance of technical knowledge and business acumen to help the team capture, evaluate, analyze and deliver on business needs preferred.
Ability to identify and effectively document issues, risks and action items preferred.
Experience with new product development and release cycles in a Professional Services/Technology Solutions environment a plus, as is experience with distributed and overseas teams.
