The Iowa Department of Public Defense is looking to fill a Construction Design Engineer position. The selected individual will work in the Construction & Facility Management Office (CFMO). Individual will perform Facility Engineering with a heavy focus in Project Management. Individual will performs design work for in-house design projects for the Iowa Army National Guard. The individual will also perform as project oversight manager and coordinator of selected sustainment, restoration and modernization (SRM) projects.
The Construction Design Engineer - will be required to:
Perform Project Management of selected projects for facilities around the state.
Maintain continuing education requirements. Must be able to travel to attend seminars and or classes.
Prepare planning and scope of work documents for required military construction, facility renovations, real property operations and maintenance projects.
Review technical engineering design work for in-house design projects.
Coordinate and communicate with architect, Field Maintenance Team, and programming branches.
Review plans and specifications for assigned projects
Will perform services for Readiness Centers, Field Maintenance Shops, and Army Aviation Support Facilities, and various training facilities to include ranges.
Will provide construction oversight on all assigned projects anywhere in the state during the construction phase of projects.
Perform site visits, communicate with consultants performing contract administration services, monitor and update Submittal exchange, review shop drawings and other submittals as required.
Perform other duties as assigned, which include but are not limited to:
Providing technical advice to colleagues and higher level management regarding non-routine maintenance problems
Civil design of new and existing facilities, implementing improvements in production, durability and appearance of facilities.
Will travel around the state to visit Iowa Guard facilities in order to conduct office business
Be automobile licensed in order to drive a state owed vehicles
Be proficient in Microsoft Office products and be able to operative a computer
Travel statewide to and visually inspect facilities and work sites for the Iowa Army National Guard
Communicate orally and in writing to include standardized reports

Must possess and maintain a current state driver's license Due to sensitive material, equipment, and information at various work sites, must receive a favorable National Agency Check. (No felonies and good driving record).
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in architecture, or in civil, mechanical, architectural, construction, fire protection or related engineering and the equivalent of four years full-time professional level work experience in the design and construction of buildings, utilities, earthwork, or related facilities and structures; and/or work with building codes, fire codes and handicapped accessibility regulations, direct involvement in the preparation of architectural or building engineering construction documents or in the review of such documents for conformance with applicable portions of these codes and regulations;
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year of full time work experience for each year of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
possession of a valid Professional Engineer license recognized by the Iowa Board of Engineering Examiners and two years of the above described professional experience;
possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Architect recognized by the Iowa Board of Architectural Examiners and two years of the above described professional experience.
