EXP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer 1 for its Chicago office to work within the Infrastructure – Transportation business practice. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision the Department Manager – Bridges & Structures with a focus on highway and railway related structures. Project types will be diverse and include but not be limited to new structures, rehabilitation of existing structures, and inspection and evaluation of existing structures. The projects will involve a wide variety of structure types, foundations and materials for clients such as IDOT, CDOT, WisDOT, Illinois Tollway, Metra and CTA.
Assist with on-site inspections, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures;
Assist with planning and schematic/geometric layout of new structures;
Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate;
Preparation of construction plans;
Assist in preparation of construction specifications;
Perform material quantity take-offs;
Organize design calculations; and
Assist with project construction administration including reviews of shop drawings and requests-for-information (RFIs).
The Skills and Knowledge You Bring
0-5 years progressively responsible relevant experience.
MS in Civil Engineering – Structures track required.
Successful completion of the FE exam
Bridge Inspection experience, including 80 hour NHI Course, preferred but not required.
Experience with analysis, design and plan preparation for highway and railway related structures.
Knowledge of structural analysis-design software.
Proficient with Bentley’s MicroStation and MS Office software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
