The role of Metallurgical Engineer will provide technical assistance on new product and process development, design and complete metallurgical investigations and projects and monitor quality control procedures with emphasis on SPC techniques to facilitate the production of high quality castings for the minerals industry.
Duties for the Metallurgical Engineer:
1. Research new product, process and quality control procedures and techniques to insure castings of high quality which meet or exceed our customer’s requirements.
2. Perform field service investigations on castings as requested by the Quality Manager and the Marketing Department.
3. Maintain accurate records and reports covering new projects as required. Complete programs on time and within budget. Prepare status reports on launching new projects that document product development, quality control, and processing technique data.
4. Maintain the calibration and standardization of chemical analysis equipment. Maintain physical and metallurgical laboratories to set standards.
5. Monitor production processing techniques and provide technical/metallurgical assistance throughout the facility to improve casting quality and reduce scrap levels.
6. Assist in the implementation and auditing of ISO-9000.
7. Maintain and adhere to ISO standards, including but not limited to the Quality Policy Statement as well as the Quality Control Procedures Manual.
8. Meet with production personnel to discus processing techniques and casting specifications.
9. Formulate, review and update heat treatments to meet casting specifications and reduce scrap.
Minimum Requirements for the Metallurgical Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent education/experience.
- Basic understanding of foundry techniques.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Proven analytical skills.
