DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides project management in the administration of design and construction of Capital Improvement Projects such as water and/or wastewater transmission and distribution systems, water purification plants, and wastewater treatment plants. Prepares and/or reviews design and construction contracts, plans, specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action. Attends and conducts design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Manages design consultants and construction contractors. Investigates and responds to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the general public.
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
No experience is required.

Must obtain a Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within seven years from hire date as an Engineer-In-Training with the City of Houston.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
