OXE Marine, Inc. is seeking an innovative Marine Application Engineer/Hydrodynamicist to join our growing team. The experience for this position may vary from 3 to 15+ years as a Marine Application Engineer or in a related fluid analysis and system design role. Interest in or experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics is a desirable requirement.
As a Marine Application Engineer, you will analyze system requirements, conduct performance assessments for applications with marine diesel outboards, hybrid outboards, outboard waterjets, recommendations for props, prop design and outboard jet performance assessments.
Familiarity with Classification Society rules (ABS, DNV, USCG, ABYC etc.) centers of buoyancy and gravity (and associated equipment), power budgets, and iteratively design/craft/validate solutions primarily related to propulsion, but not limited to vehicle hull, and control surface forms and shapes for manned and autonomous Unmanned Surface (USVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
Duties & Responsibilities
Your insight and understanding will also guide others in the implementation of overall product design requirements. The role of Marine Application Engineer often grows into, or also performs tasks of, a Systems Engineer. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Analyze, conceive, simulate, prototype, and validate marine diesel outboards, hybrid outboards, outboard waterjets for surface vessel and USV, and ROV systems as related to performance assessments for applications.
- Apply fundamentals of naval architecture/hydrodynamics to create innovative solutions.
- Present and discuss technical concepts, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates.
- Interface with Systems Engineering and other disciplines to develop/define/implement customer requirements.
- Follow through on full product lifecycle: development, prototyping, integration, verification, delivery, and support as required including operations and sea-testing.
- Incorporate best practices for Marine Application Engineer, Naval architecture/hydrodynamics and Design for Cost & Manufacturability.
- Identify, manage, and solve problems associated with Marine Application Engineer, Naval architecture/hydrodynamics work products.
- Apply experience and knowledge to resolve design, verification, manufacturing, and field performance issues.
- Follow company standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements.
- Work within a team environment to achieve goals.
- Support mentoring and engineering staff development.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related engineering discipline required, master’s degree is a plus 3 to 15+ years of relevant experience in Naval Architecture/Hydrodynamic design with broad application and a fundamental understanding of the product development life cycle.
- May consider less years of experience for the right high potential candidate.
- Fundamental understanding of industry accepted design methods and practices, including design spaces/tradeoffs, test data analysis, and requirement/specification change processes.
- Significant product development background demonstrating a strong engineering aptitude and good problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve issues during design, development, and execution of Marine Application Engineer/Naval Architecture activities.
- Experience using Ansys CFX and Fluent, Matlab & Simulink, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook) Rhino, GHSMS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. (SolidWorkds and Project are pluses)) to performance analyses, create documents, work products, and presentations.
- Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven contributor on project teams to accomplish objectives. Ability to plan and execute presentations to a technical body.
- Effective contributor in a team environment, providing technical leadership where applicable.
- Ability to work independently to achieve technical and program requirements.
- Ability to work with other engineering disciplines to contribute to a collaborative development environment.
- Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance, if required.

- Ability to travel up to 25%, both international and domestic.
Desired:
- Prior experience with small vessel shipyards and design firms, DoD or with U.S. government customers is highly desirable.
- Experience in at-sea testing, system tuning, and verification for Naval and Marine applications.
- Familiarity with Military Standards and recreational vessel requirements, ruggedized equipment design, and environmental test requirements.
- Knowledge of materials and corrosion control.
- Extensive familiarity with the design and development of autonomous surface and underwater systems.
- Experience modeling and simulating surface systems.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
