GCC is seeking a bright Safety Engineer to join a major engineering contractor in the North Bay. This is a great opportunity to join a leading firm in the construction industry and develop personal and professional growth.
The work environment includes all areas of a work site, including maintenance activities of the facilities equipment, installation of new facilities and all construction activities.
This could include all safety aspects related to the subcontractor selection process, subcontractor work plan reviews, training, confined space entry, hot work permitting, scaffolding, etc on a job site. This individual is vital in ensuring the federal, state, local and GCC EHS standards and regulations are met, and that any violations are discovered proactively and are corrected. Keeping our site and its employees, including subcontracting employees, safe and in compliance with EHS standards is this individual’s goal.
Responsibilities
· Plans, directs and coordinates an overall occupation safety and health program for employees.
· Identifies conditions which create hazards
· Completes project safety inspections
· Supports Project Teams
· Creates and implements safety trainings and field employee onboarding
· Acts as a guide between project management and field employees on Health and Safety items.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Assures compliance with Company safety policies and OSHA safety standards
· Assists with COVID 19 reporting requirements
· Oversights the companies safety tracking program including annual awards
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
· BS Degree in Health and Safety, Civil Engineering or Construction Management or a minimum of 4 years similar construction engineering experience
· Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· 2-3 years working in Safety role
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Thorough knowledge of occupational safety and health procedures and practices.
· Good organization and communication skills
· Ability to coordinate with field superintendents and craft personnel
· Work with a diverse group of individuals and organizations representing public agencies, private utilities, subcontractors and suppliers
Physical Requirements
May work in the field 15-30% of the time. May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist. May be required to use hand or power tools. Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds, push and extend arms.
