Job Summary: Ensure safety compliance with all regulatory requirements, permits, and projects. Support the facility with audits, planning, training, and policy.
Essential Functions of Job
To assist the Safety Manager to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, manage safety-related projects, and ensure all employees, visitors, and contractors comply with Giant Cement Company (Giant) and Giant Resource Recovery - Harleyville, Inc. (GRR) safety protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Reports directly to the Safety Manager, and functionally responsible to the Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety (GCHI) for regulatory compliance with all local, state and federal safety regulations.
Dedicate greater than 70% of work time to field activities and observations – work place exam verification, spot correction and training on unsafe activities, real time audits/inspections of work areas,
Communicate identified deficiencies and corrective actions to the appropriate departments for continual emphasis on safe working environments.
Assist in planning the completion of work in the facility to ensure that safety deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.
Regular follow up with all departments to audit completed safety work orders to ensure that potentially hazardous conditions are corrected properly and in a timely manner.
Monitor and inspect the Giant and GRR facilities to ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations and standards.
Communicate to the; Safety Manager; Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety; Vice President of Operations; and Plant Managers that information (especially regarding safety compliance) which is important for them to know.
Review new regulations (federal, state, and local), State Registers, and other applicable newsworthy information for safety impact to the Giant/GRR facilities, employees, and off-site visitors/contractors.
Review and maintain all safety documentation in a clearly organized and accessible manner to demonstrate compliance with multiple safety programs.
Conduct Giant/GRR internal audits in accordance with the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) and/or other established policies.
Responsible for the maintenance of, and updates to, the HSMS.
Maintain a neat, clean, orderly, and organized workstation.
Carry out company policies and promote the company image of a strong safety culture within the community.
Create and maintain good employer-employee relations in all areas of the company.
Accompany federal and state personnel during agency inspections at the facility and maintain a positive working relationship.
Respond to citations/notices of violation and develop responses to federal and state information requests.
Promote safety compliance awareness in his/her job and throughout the company. Work with facility operations in areas of safety compliance.
Assist in tracking and scheduling safety training.
Participate in various safety committees and meetings as appropriate, both internal and external to Giant/GRR.
Enter and track work orders to correct safety concerns identified during general site visits/inspections.
Perform recurring duties which may include entering safety purchase requisitions and receive invoices; maintaining the safety filing system; and other recurring duties as assigned.
Serve in a back-up capacity when the Safety Manager is unavailable.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned from time to time by the Safety Manager, Plant Managers, and/or the Corporate EHS Department.
