Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering to complement its strategic research application areas of Bio-Instrumentation and Biodiagnostics relevant to the fields of Biomedical, Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

An appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level in Biological & Agricultural Engineering. Research expectations include the ability to work independently, and to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations, both within and outside LSU, sustain an innovative, nationally recognized, and externally funded biomedically-oriented engineering research program, and growing relationships with industry. Teaching expectations include a commitment to effective instruction and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervision of student research.
Job Responsibilities:
50% Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and associated service in support of the educational mission and reputation of the unit.
50% Research in biological engineering areas, especially in the general application areas of bio-instrumentation and biodiagnostics, resulting in scholarship published in archival journals and research grant/contract solicitation to support it, along with associated service in support of the research mission and reputation of the unit.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Engineering or related scientific field (ABD candidates will be considered so long as degree requirements are met prior to the hire date); at least four years of experience, including graduate study; experience in any area of biological, biomedical, or electrical engineering, especially as related to the general application areas of bioinstrumentation, biodagnostics for biomedical, biological, bioenvironmental and agricultural engineering.
A valid Driver's License is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following is preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Biological, Biomedical, Electrical, Agricultural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline. Research experience in one or more of these subjects: bioinstrumentation, in vitro and in vivo diagnostics, biosensors, micro total analysis systems (uTAS), organ-on-a-chip systems, bio-inspired robotics, multi-scale, multi-physics modeling & simulation, and additive manufacturing/biomaterials innovation.
Teaching experience in undergraduate instrumentation, with a focus on instrumentation relevant to biological or agricultural systems, is preferred. This position is expected to teach core and elective courses in Biological Engineering, such as BE 2350 Introduction to Experimental Methods, a core lecture and laboratory course in the BE curriculum. Topics include instrumentation for engineering applications; measurement, acquisition, and control of physical factors in biological systems such as temperature, pressure, flow, strain and electrical phenomena.
Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain a PE; ability to effectively communicate (written, oral, web, video, etc.) to varied audiences of different educational backgrounds at LSU and its clientele groups; ability to act in a professional manner as a representative of LSU; hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and application of concepts to engineering fields; and ability to offer bio-instrumentation guidance to senior design capstone student projects.
