The Energy Storage System Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for releasing parts and subsystems related to the Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) for Electrified Marine Propulsion applications.
This individual will also lead in gathering, negotiating, updating, and documenting requirements for the assigned product and will be the single-point contact between GM and the supply base. The DRE will participate in highly complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions with a blend of program management and technical leadership. They will also be responsible to lead and develop strategic solutions to achieve business initiatives for safety, warranty cost and quality. Capable of managing very broad or numerous projects with high degree of difficulty. Exercises independent judgment, with minimal input from supervisor.

Leads overall communication, coordination, and consultation with engineering departments and customers for responsible components
Establishes designs to meet program performance and timing requirements
Balances requirements across systems
Owns and releases the hardware for development, production and experimental builds
Assures that all Electrical and Mechanical interfaces are defined and documented including packaging of components
Negotiates changes from supplier and updates requirement documents
Supports cost savings initiatives.
Facilitates requirements and design reviews with suppliers, (DFMEA, DRBFM, Peer Reviews)
Gathers all necessary documents for sourcing and provide technical expertise during purchasing process
Organizes and leads Product Development Team (PDT) meetings
Keeps supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones
Analyzes design through design failure modes effects analysis (DFMEA)
Plans and implements complex test and/or development programs
Demonstrates that designs meet requirements through analysis, development and validation processes
Represents business unit in vendor and/or customer contacts
Releases final designs for manufacturing or purchase as appropriate
Conducts incident analysis and ensures problem resolution
Implements engineering changes
Initiates and evaluates cost studies, product suggestions and value analyses
Ensures designs meet serviceability requirements
Actively participates in product management team
Supports supplier quality assurance process and warranty issue resolution
Supports technical specialist in establishing component/system requirements
Participates in work groups with interfacing hardware/software teams as required
Travels as required
Additional Job Description
BS in Engineering, Math, Physics, and Computer Science
Minimum of 2 years of experience working for General Motors
2+ years of engineering experience
Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
Understanding of engineering theory/principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
Familiarity working with vehicle integration issues
Familiarity working with suppliers
Ability to multi-task
Experience in problem solving
Highly developed oral and written communications skills
MS in Engineering, Math, Physics, and Computer Science
5+ years related experience
Background in automotive system hardware engineering (development and/or release)
Knowledge of GM warranty system
Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with and motivate others
Very high level of analytical problem solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
